LED Technology Basical Knowledge:
Why are LED Light said to be safer?

RE:  LED’s conserve energy and run at a lower temperature than many other light sources. They pose less of a fire risk. Not only this but our products are all certified against electrical and safery measures.

How do LED‘s help to reduce energency consumption?

RE:  LED’s are more efficient as they do not produce as much heat, so the energy focus is primarily on the light. Also, DUALRAYS use Optics and beam angles which directs the light exactly where needed no loss of light.
Not only this but LED’s  can run up to around 100,000 hours which beats any other bulbs lifespan.

What’s CCT(colour temperature) ?
RE:  The description used to describe the effect of heating an object until it grows incandescently. The emitted radiation, and apparent colour, changes proportional to the temperature; easily envisioned radiation, and apparent colour, changes proportional to the temperature; easily envisioned ,when considering hot meal in a forge that glows red, then orange, and then white as the temperature increases.

Why we use the high power LED ?
RE:  A high power LED, sometimes referred to as a power LED, is one that is driven at current of 350mA or higher.

What’s Lumen?
RE:  The international (SI) unit of luminous flux or quantity of light and equals the amount of light that is spread over a square foot of surface by one candle power when all parts of the surface are exactly one foot from the light source.

What’s the meaning of “Beam Angle "?
RE:  The spread of light from a luminaire. For example: a fitting such as a low bay ,which is closer to the floor, will have a wider beam angle to illuminate a given floor area while a high bay fitting will have a narrower beam.

How do we explain “CRI” ?
RE:  A measure of the degree of colour shift objects undergo when illuminated by the light source as compared with those same objects when illuminated by a reference source of comparable colour temperature. The reference source has a CRI of 100.

What’s LED Chips ?
RE:  The light producing semiconductor device that may or may not be incorporated into an LED.

LED Luminaires Knowledge:
Do you know “DALI“?
RE:  Digital addressable lighting interface (DALI) is a trademark for network-based systems that control lighting in building automation.

What’s the fire rating categories ?
RE:  VO-Burning stops within 10 seconds on vertical specimen; drips of particles allowed as long as they are not inflamed.
        HB-Slow burning on a horizonal specimen’s burning rate <76mm /min thickness <3mm or burning stops before 100mm.
        TP(b)-Slow burning rate <50mm / min for thickness <3mm.
TP(a)-Self extinguishes and flaming and afterglow should not exceed 5 seconds once source the source of flame is removed.

How to explain “Flux/luminous Flux “?
RE:  Luminous flux is the measure of the perceived power of light produced by the LED, adjusting to reflect the varying sensitivity of the human eye to different wavelengths of light.
How to explain “illuminance“?
RE:  The intensity of light falling on a surface area. If the area is measured in square feet, the unit of illuminance is footcandles(fc). If measured in square metres, the unit of illuminance is Lux.

What’s efficacy about the light ?
RE:  The light output of a light source divided by the total electrical power input to that source, expressed in lumens per watt(lm/w).

How important is IP ?
RE:   Classifies and rates the degree of protection provided against intrusion (body parts such as hands and fingers), dust, accident contact, and water by mechanical casing and electrical enclosures.

What’s LGP(PMMA)?
RE:   A key component to maximize the uniformity of light, to make the backlight slim and to reorient the line or dot light source such as LED to the plate light source.

What’s Watt ?
RE:   The unit of electrical power as used by an electrical device during its operation. Many lamps come with rating in watts to indicate their power consumption.

How to explain “lumen output “ ?
RE:   The total lumens emitted of a light source, system, or solution.

What IP Rating do I need?
RE:  An IP rating between 44-55 can be used for both indoor and outdoor use. Anything lower than IP44 should only be used indoors. However, depending on the application the IP rating may increase.

How to explain “luminous Efficacy“ ?
RE:  A measure of how well a light source products visible light expressed as lumens /Watt.

What is lumens?

RE:  Lumens measure the total amount of visible light to the human eye from a lamp or light source. The higher the lumens, the brighter the light. You’ll find lumen output figures on all of our products listed on our website, or in the specifications on our product datasheets.

What IP Ratings do our LED Products come under?

RE:  Generally, our lights are IP66 or IP67 protecting from solids (dust) and water, but this does depend on the luminaire.

What IP Rating do I need?
RE:  An IP rating between 44-55 can be used for both indoor and outdoor use. Anything lower than IP44 should only be used indoors. However, depending on the application the IP rating may increase.

LED Driver Knowledge:
What’s Power factor ?
RE:  The active power divided by the apparent power (i.e product of the rms input voltage and rms input current of a driver.

Could i tell you what’s LED driver ?
RE:  An electronic circuit that converts input power into a current source -a source in which current ramains constant despite fluctuations in voltage fluctuations ,overvoltages, and voltage spikes.

Smart Lighting Knowledge:
What’s Smart Lighting ?
RE:   Automated lighting control using sensors and /or scheduling switches.
How to explain “ZigBee“ ?
RE:   A low -power ,low date rate, local area wireless network; ideal for lighting control.

Emergency Issues:

Do DUALRAYS offer lighting with emergency battery back up?

RE:  DUALRAYS offer a variety of emergency variants with options that suit a range of environments.

What are the legal requirements for emergency lighting?

RE:  Emergency lighting regulations are determined on the standard or requirements which can vary depending on the application or geographical location.

Harzadous Area Knowledge:

What is Harzadous Location Lighting?
RE: A light or fixture that is used within a location where hazards such as fire, explosion or combustion may arise and is therefore able to withstand and be safe within these environments. Hazardous location or Hazloc is another term used to define hazarous areas.

What is an ATEX Light?

RE:  ATEX is the name commonly given to the two European Directives for controlling explosive atmospheres. ATEX lighting provides a safe solution to lighting exposed in hazardous areas. When lighting is required within areas containing flammable gases or dust, ATEX lighting is necessary.

What is the difference between IECEx and ATEX?

RE:  The main difference is the geographical location where the certification is acknowledged and accepted.
ATEX is a requirement in Europe, whereas IECEx certification is internationally recognised and therefore allows manufacturers to distribute products internationally.

Can LED Light be used in harzadous areas?

RE:  Yes, we have luminaires suitable for Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21 and Zone 22 use.

What is the difference between ATEX Zone 1 and 2?
RE:  Zone 1 is An area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, whereas a Zone 21 area is classified as an area in which an explosive atmosphere which contains flammable substances in the form of powder
or dust that is likely to occur in normal operation occasionally.

What is the difference between ATEX Zone 1 and 2?
RE:  The ‘Zone’ of an ATEX approved determines the level of certification required for electrical products to be installed in these areas. A Zone 1 and Zone 2 area can be defined as;
Zone 1: An area in which explosive gas, vapour or mist is present during regular operation.
Zone 2: An area in which explosive gas, vapour or mist not likely to occur in normal operation and, if is present, will only be for a short period of time.

Lighting Design Service
What is the lighting design service?

A 3D design plan is used to provide you with a visual representation of what the final installed lighting solution will actually look like, demonstrating the lux levels and spread of light that will be achieved on-scene.
